Duties
- You will manage all aspects of the command's cognizant networks, including defining requirements, maintaining up-to-date network architecture drawings, and implementing the required lifecycle maintenance for all network hardware and software.
- You will plan, install, and manage network security equipment, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and gateway routers.
- You will ensure compliance with mandated security directives, such as IP Blocklists and DNS Black Hole lists.
- You will continuously monitor network capacity and performance, performing scans and patching to maintain operational readiness. Analyze, diagnose, and correct recurring and emergency network faults to restore normal operations.
- You will plan and develop technical upgrades and modernization initiatives for network equipment. Coordinate with other departments to plan for IT installations, including data center requirements for power, space, and cooling.
- You will develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for network operations. Document all configuration changes through a formal approval process and provide support necessary to maintain network accreditation packages (e.g., RMF).
- You will conduct regular backups of network component configurations (e.g., routers, switches). Support cybersecurity incident response activities as a technical subject matter expert.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NH-02 (or GS-11 equivalency) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Your experience must reflect skill in the following areas: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving. Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Local Area Network (LAN) components such as routers and switches, including configuring VLANs, routing protocols, or switch port security. Experience using network management tools (e.g., SNMP-based monitors) to analyze network traffic, monitor device performance, and troubleshoot connectivity issues. Experience assisting with the management of network firewalls by implementing and troubleshooting access control lists (ACLs) or rule sets. Experience performing configuration backups of network devices, applying security patches or updates to network hardware, and assisting with vulnerability remediation on network components. -AND- Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. Experience: For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
