IT CYBERSECURITY SPECIALIST (INFOSEC)

Summary

This position is being recruited under 10 USC 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service. It has been identified as a position necessary to carry out and support the mission of the US Cyber Command. It is in the Professional Work Category at the Senior Work Level within the CES Occupational Structure. It is located in the DCDC - Cyber Defense Command - R/SI.

Duties

• Use data collected from a variety of cyber defense tools (e.g., IDS alerts, firewalls, network traffic logs) to analyze events that occur within their environments for the purposes of mitigating threats.
• Perform assessments of systems and networks identifies where those systems/networks deviate from acceptable configurations, enclave policy, or local policy and conduct all types of testing and provide technical support for large system tests.
• Explore next generation security technology as part of an evolving technical design of the Department of Defense Information Network (DODIN) and its security components.
• Provide educated recommendations on security technologies, service improvements, budgetary estimations, and similar activities.
• Communicate orally and in writing to provide specific information concerning systems issues with vendors, customers, and management.

Qualifications

For the GG13, applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating the following competencies appropriate to, or above, the level of this position. Problem Solving - identifying alternatives to address complex information technology-related issues by gathering and applying information from a variety of sources that provide a number of potential solutions. AND Qualifying Experience: In addition to meeting the basic requirement, qualified applicants must possess: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-12) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. To qualify at the GG-13, your resume must describe at least one year of experience that demonstrates the competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Experience refers to any paid or unpaid experience, including volunteer work and Military service, that would be considered equivalent to work normally performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, qualifying experience is defined as (1) executing Risk Management Framework (RMF)/Authorization to Operate (ATO) activities such as security control assessment, POA&M management, or continuous monitoring; (2) operating cyber defense tools such as Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) or Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS); AND (3) includes duties such as performing cyber defense trend analysis or malicious activity analysis; or conducting incident response or threat hunting; or performing vulnerability management or forensic analysis; or evaluating cybersecurity policies and security controls. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
