Summary

This position is located in the office of General Counsel (OGC), Program Law and Policy Department (PLPD), at the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC). More than one selection may be made from this vacancy announcement.

Duties

• The candidate selected for this position will: Advise PBGC on legal issues respecting multiemployer pension plans and PBGC's insurance program for these plans. Such issues arise in the context of administrative determinations, requests for guidance, negotiations, providing technical assistance to Congress, and developing regulations. Investigate abuses of PBGC's insurance program for multiemployer plans. Advise and represent PBGC in litigation respecting multiemployer plans including by drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and other filings. Negotiate with plan sponsors and other stakeholders and draft agreements. Conduct meetings and correspond with stakeholders regarding requests for guidance on issues involving multiemployer law.

Qualifications

As a General Attorney in the office of General Counsel (OGC), Program Law and Policy Department (PLPD), at the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) you will have to demonstrate the following: GS-14: Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the private sector with litigation experience and prior experience in at least one of the following areas: Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA); Bankruptcy and Insolvency Law; Administrative Law; Corporate Transactional Law, or Complex Civil Litigation. Examples include: serving as an authoritative attorney within an organization; serving on and directing task forces, case teams, or committees; participating in training entry-level attorneys; analyzing and applying laws related to complex regulatory schemes; drafting complex transactional documents; representing clients in bankruptcy or federal district court; and providing advice regarding ERISA or the Internal Revenue Code.

Education

Applicants must posses a J.D. degree from a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA).In addition to the education requirement, you must currently be a member in good standing of the bar of a State, a Territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
