Summary
DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.201) for this occupation. The Primary Purpose of the Position is: To perform and lead three or more employees performing as pipefitters, carpenters, and mechanics on a range of high pressure to low pressure steam, building structures, and mechanical and electrical systems.
Duties
- The Maintenance Mechanic Work Leader is responsible but not limit to the following: Leads a team of workers performing a variety of pipefitting, carpentry, locksmith, mason and painting maintenance repairs. Answers questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directive, technical orders, etc. Performs a variety of journeyman level pipefitting and/or mechanical repairs and maintenance tasks: Installs modifies, repairs, cleans, adjusts· and maintains new and existing high pressure piping systems and equipment such as steam heating, hot water and steam generation, radiators, steam sterilizers, heat exchangers, hot water and condensate tanks. Repairs/replaces a variety of system components and parts to include piping, expansion joints, condensate and circulating pumps, regulators, valves, coils, diaphragms, steam filters, traps, fittings, gauges and thermostats, etc. working from blueprints, lay-out sketches and specifications, sets up system routes and locates and marks spots for openings through which pipes are to pass or in which equipment will be installed. Performs a variety of journeyman level masonry repairs and maintenance tasks. Performs tasks involving the construction, alteration, maintenance and repair of buildings, complete construction _of exterior and exterior walls and floors. Performs a variety of journeyman level carpentry repairs and maintenance tasks. Alters and installs walls, floors, ceiling, roofs, doors and windows. Constructs new drywall partitions and other temporary structures of wood. Installs windows and doors. Mortises doors, adjusting as necessary to assure proper fit. Cuts and installs trim material around new work. Performs a variety of journeyman level painting and papering tasks. Paints and hangs paper/vinyl on a variety of surfaces and materials. Paints and hangs wall coverings in offices, wards,· corridors, dining areas, living quarters and shop buildings. Paints and refinishes furniture, wood and metal such as desks, cabinets, chairs, operating room and laundry equipment. Walking (4 hours), Standing (4 hours), Crawling (4 hours), Kneeling ( 4 hours), Repeated bending ( 4 hours), Climbing, legs only (4 hours) Climbing, use of legs and arms, Both legs required Operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
