Summary

About the Position: This position is located at Hurlburt Field Air Force Base, Florida. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Student Loan repayment may be authorized. Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.

Duties

• Perform a wide variety of difficult and complex laboratory tests and examinations in the chemistry, serology, hematology, urinalysis, immunohematology, and microbiology sections of a medical treatment facility laboratory.
• Select appropriate test methodology to use and recognizes when test values are positive or exceed a defined decision limit.
• Independently correlate laboratory markers with certain pathological states to verify abnormal results and minimize highly complex diagnostic problems.
• Input data and results in hospital-wide computer system making corrections as required for proper diagnosis and treatment of the patient.
• Calibrate various analyzers as required and runs quality control samples on all instruments, making adjustments as necessary.
• Screen patients and collects and processes specimens for testing.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Minimum Qualifications for Medical Technician: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which which includes performing testing procedures in a clinical laboratory; maintaining clinical laboratory equipment; and preparing reports or documenting results through automated systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Medical Lab Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. AND Certification Requirement: Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT); Medical Technologist (MT); or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) is required.
