SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST

Summary

You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the ENVIRONMENTAL, SAFETY AND HEALTH (ESH) DEPARTMENT of SOUTHWEST REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CENTER. Pay: GS-09 $70,507 - $91,664 GS-11 $85,307 - $110,905

Duties

• You will be responsible for planning, implementing, administering, evaluating, and improving occupational safety, occupational health, and environmental safety program elements.
• You will apply occupational safety and health principles, industrial safety practices, and applicable regulatory requirements to ship repair, industrial, construction, and maritime operations.
• You will develop, update, and recommend instructions, procedures, educational materials, and local implementing guidance for assigned program requirements.
• You will conduct workplace, industrial, shipboard, and contractor-facility inspections and surveys.
• You will maintain records of inspections, investigations, mishaps, near misses, fires, spills, and safety or environmental violations.
• You will compile and analyze statistical information as well as prepare charts, tables, and reports.
• You will advise on detection, control, and elimination of unsafe and unhealthful working conditions at shore-side locations and aboard ships.
• You will develop and distribute safety materials, articles and other communications addressing recurring or emerging safety concerns.

Qualifications

GS-11 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Planning, scheduling, and executing safety audits and program evaluations across diverse facilities, shipyards, and administrative spaces to verify program integration and regulatory compliance. GS-09 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying occupational safety and health principles to identify and assist with improving safety and health concerns for ship repair, industrial, construction, and maritime operations. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: GS-11 Completion of a Ph. D or equivalent doctoral degree; OR Completion of 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR Possession of LL.M., if related; OR A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. GS-09 Completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR Completion of 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR Possession of LL.B. or J.D., if related; OR A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
