Summary
About the position: This position is Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF) and will be assigned to the Fort Dix Logistics Facility, Fort Dix, NJ.
Duties
- Performs spot inspections of buildings and structure to determine the nature and extent of repairs required. Determines whether the repair/maintenance work needed is within job capabilities of the unit; if not, reports findings to supervisor. Works on self-help projects that are intended to improve the facility. Inspects plumbing fixtures, fittings and pipes to determine if parts or connections are defective by observing leaks or other malfunctions. Clears stopped or sluggish drain lines. Repairs and/or replaces light switches or sockets, bulbs, fluorescent fixtures, starters, ballasts, tubes, and outlets. Performs minor servicing maintenance. Performs tasks changing light bulbs, paint walls, woodwork, furniture and equipment. Maintains adequate supplies for normal performance of mission. Takes inventory and assures essential supplies are reordered in time to prevent work stoppages. Takes all equipment to proper shops for repairs as required. Submits requests to supervisor for new equipment as needed. Ensures that material and supplies are properly and safely stored, protected and maintained. Uses various hand and power tools such as manual and/or power drills and saws, braces and bots, hammers, chisels, wrenches, screw drivers etc., in accomplishing tasks/jobs. Enforces and follows good housekeeping, safety, and fire regulations. Performs grounds keeping and building maintenance duties. Groom lawns using small hand tools, power or riding mower and trim and adge around walkways and walls and other standard equipment of the trade. Performs seasonal tasks as required; such as applying ice control material to entrance of buildings, shoveling snow, removes unsightly trash and debris around buildings, mowing grass, and watering lawns around buildings. May be required to operate any of the motor vehicles to include pick-up trucks, sedans, step-vans, etc., for carrying passengers and cargo. Performs delivery services by identifying supplies, materials, and equipment to be delivered from invoices or order forms, safely loading items on the delivery vehicle, safeguarding items during transit, delivering items to the correct department, and obtaining the appropriate signature for the receipt of the delivered items. Moderately heavy physical effort is required, pushing and moving furniture, furniture set-up and tear down. Performs other related duties as assigned, to include training other employees in the use of various fund equipment, its operation, and how to make minor repairs. Qualifying Experience: Must have experience in operating the vehicles, equipment listed, performing operator's maintenance, and complying with safety and traffic rules and regulations. Must have the ability to perform a variety of laborer, custodial, gardening, driving and park maintenance duties with minimal supervision. Requires experience driving lawn tractors, using tools and equipment normally found in maintaining grounds, facilities and equipment.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
