Summary

About the Position: This position is with U.S. Army Transportation Command, the incumbent will serve as a Traffic Management Specialist located at the Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.

Duties

  • Forecasting cargo volumes and developing cost estimates for the requested range of transportation services.
  • Administering G3-related contracts, which includes monitoring and reporting on contractor performance.
  • Inspect and evaluate commercial carrier operations, terminal facilities, and equipment to ensure full compliance with safety standards, military regulations, and contract specifications.
  • Review cargo manifests, shipping documents, billing records, and delivery receipts to identify discrepancies, ensure accuracy, and guarantee adherence to traffic management guidelines.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert to advise shippers, booking offices, and contractors on complex shipping requirements, routing instructions, and military/federal transportation regulations.
  • Review and interpret technical shipping manuals, cargo characteristics, hazardous material requirements, and carrier tariffs to determine the safest and most efficient transport methods.
  • Develop comprehensive operational plans, schedules, and resource requirements to move cargo across international transit networks.
  • Manage the timelines, resource allocations, and technical execution of analytical studies and IT systems integration designed to optimize logistics workflows.

Assisting in the administration, monitoring, or evaluation of carrier/contractor performance against contract terms, conditions, and safety standards 3.) Conducting functional systems analysis to integrate specialized logistics database software and resolve systemic traffic management system errors. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
