Summary

Position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services Program Office after review of the EDRP application. Duties

• The Donald J. Mitchell Department of Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic in Rome, NY is recruiting for a Podiatrist. Come join the team and see what VA Syracuse Healthcare System has to offer! VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. The Podiatrist provides quality patient care in collaboration with other health care professionals. The incumbent will perform specific duties within his/her approved scope of practice and must be able to give authoritative views and opinions on subjects in their field of medicine. Podiatrists treat such common conditions as bunions, corns and calluses, and ingrown toenails. Staff Medical Podiatrists perform office-based procedures and generally work a set 40-hour per week schedule. Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provides comprehensive podiatric care consisting of assessment and evaluation, diagnosis, development of a treatment plan, referrals and consultations when deemed necessary, and coordination of aftercare services. Responsible for the coordination of a multidisciplinary team in the above activities. Perform history and physical examinations, evaluate all podiatric problems and to find the appropriate therapeutic approach. Routinely review imaging studies and a range of clinical laboratory tests. Assesses patients podiatric condition. Coordinates the development of a treatment plan. Plan and implement discharge planning for patients. Perform clinical functions appropriate to credential, training and experience. Care is performed in the outpatient clinic, inpatient unit, ER, (Community Living Center, CBOC, or when applicable) and on Medical Center consultations. Address the unique characteristic and issues with regard to the young adult (18-39), middle adult (40-64), older adult (65-80) and geriatric (80+) patient, taking into consideration cognitive deficits and emotional and behavioral reactions to stressful life events such as ill health, economic problems and the loss of significant others. Participates in the monitoring of PI indicators and conducts peer reviews when requested. Compliance with the VA policy. Responsible for the supervision evaluation of residence and podiatry students in the outpatient clinic, inpatient unit, ER, (OR and CLC when applicable) and on consultations. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Podiatrist Basic Requirements Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
