About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Research and Development Center (ERDC), Coastal & Hydraulic Laboratory (CHL), Coastal Observation & Analysis Branch (COAB), and will be filled as a Engineering Technician (Civil), DE-0802-04 (GS 11/12). GS 11: $75,788 - $98,530 GS 12: $90,838 - $118,092

Duties

• Coordinate specialized teams for field operations
• Direct operation of vessels in the ocean and estuaries as part of coastal research activities
• Provide subject matter expertise to major technical projects/programs
• Direct team members on servicing and maintenance of vehicles and equipment with diesel engines and hydraulic systems operated in the marine environment
• Diagnose and repair failure in diesel engines and hydraulic systems operated in the marine environment
• Perform fabrication of specialized subsea equipment mounts using metal working skills
• Deploy and recover oceanographic instrumentation
• Navigate operating vessels in marine environment

Basic Requirements for Engineering Technician, 0802 Series: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Operating and/or maintaining various equipment such as forklifts, backhoes, and ATVs; 2) Assisting in the diagnosis of various issues in various engines; and 3) Conducting marine operations with the assistance of various oceanographic instruments or systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DE-03 (GS-10). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. [At least 6 of the 24 semester hours must have been in drafting if the position has been designated by a drafting area of specialization.] OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DE-0802-04 (equivalent to GS-11/12). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (DE-03, GS 10).
