Munitions Inspector

Summary

About the Position: The incumbent will be assigned to the 404th Army Field Support Brigade, Army Field Support Battalion, Supply & Services Division at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

Duties

• Perform a variety of routine and special inspections of conventional, improved conventional and non-standard ammunition.
• Assist quality assurance specialist during Quantity Distance Surveys and Standard Operating Procedures preparation and in maintaining a variety of publications, regulations, and files pertaining to work of the unit.
• Perform periodic storage and special inspections to determine quality, safety, and condition of a wide variety of ammunition, sub-components, and materials used in the maintenance, modification, and manufacture of ammunition items.
• Perform quality monitoring of maintenance operations, area inspections, and magazine storage inspections.
• Inspect small arms ammunition, artillery and mortar ammunition, rockets, missiles, mines, grenades, bulk high explosives, propellants/propelling charges, fuses, primers, electo-explosive devices, and experimental and non-standard ammunition.
• Inspect incoming material from other installations and vendors for damage in transit, safety, serviceability, and compliance with applicable references (mil-standards, drawings, and other publications).
• Perform verification inspections in conjunction with ammunition maintenance or modification operations.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Munitions Inspector without more than normal supervision. to include handling conventional ammunition and ammunition peculiar equipment and following safe and proper methods of using tools and gauges required to perform inspection; operate machines to perform the ammunition or explosives production process. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation) Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work performance requires moderately heavy lifting (40 lbs), good eyesight, and considerable standing, kneeling, squatting and bending. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside and outside, exposed to dirt, grease, cleaning solvents, sharp metal strapping, high explosives and propellants, bare boostering explosives, chemical smoke devices, flammable solids (i.e., WP, RP, powdered metals, etc.,) electrostatically initiated ammunition, materials sensitive to static sparks and nonstandard materials. The worker is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, falls or accidents with moving equipment. Employee is required to wear safety shoes, coveralls, face shields, goggles, masks, gloves, hard hat, hearing protection and/or other safety equipment and clothing while engaged in various surveillance operations and inspections.
