Summary

This position is responsible for the Department of Justice's (DOJ) real property asset management programs. Assets include land, building, and other structures which are permanent acquisitions (federally owned) or those that are temporary in nature. Responsibilities include the functions of planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, controlling, and overseeing the asset with responsibility for the results.

Duties

  • The duties and responsibilities for an Architect, GS-0808-13, generally include, but are not limited to, the following: * Reviews and approves architectural features of various designs and construction documents. * Determines terms of cost, system capability, customer requirements and available technology for design projects. * Utilizes a Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) system to prepare drawings, layouts and specifications. * Develops the conceptual designs and criteria needed for complex architectural/engineering projects.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Architect, at GS-0808-13, you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below. Basic Requirement: A. You must have a degree in architecture; or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related discipline of which at least: (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, AND (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems. (NOTE: Transcripts MUST be provided.) OR B. A combination of education and experience - college level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, AND (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. (NOTE: Transcripts MUST be provided.) OR C. 5 years of experience conducting relevant professional work in architects office or in architectural work. Non-qualifying experience: The following type of experience is not acceptable as professional architectural experience:* Professional Landscape - architecture work consisting mainly of the layout, design, construction, or maintenance of land areas and landscape features, including ground and water forms, vegetation, roads, walks, incidental structures, and other landscape features.* Experience in the application of artistic embellishment to practical design, such as, the decoration of interiors, including the construction, layout, and selection of furniture and furnishings that do not alter the basic architectural design of the interior.* City and community planning work that relates to the broad social and economic growth and development of such community services and facilities as industry, commerce, transportation, streets, utilities, and parks. You MUST have a current, valid license to practice Architecture in the United states. (NOTE: A copy of your license MUST be provided.) Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service utilizing a CADD system to prepare drawings, layouts and design specifications, applying project management principles, methods, and tools to resolve architectural problems AND applying architectural design, construction and improvement to buildings. You MUST meet all qualification requirements, including time-in-grade, by the 09/25/2026 of this announcement.
