Summary

About the Position: This position is located at Alexander T. Augusta Augusta Military Medical Center in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Recruitment Incentive may be authorized. Relocation Incentive may be authorized. Advanced In-hire may be authorized.

Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments using medical, biochemical, and nutritional data for patients identified at nutritional risk.
  • Obtain timely and appropriate data and analyze/interpret data based on evidence-based standards.
  • Lead and direct interdisciplinary treatment teams, providing authoritative guidance and investigating, evaluating, advising on, and resolving problems, issues, and conditions related to patient nutritional care.
  • Serve as the final approving authority for the development, implementation, and modification of highly individualized and complex nutrition interventions.
  • Provide appropriate documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in the patient's medical record, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis, plan, implementation, and progress toward goals.
  • Assure that care delivered to each patient is in accordance with evidence-based standards and guidelines, continuously enhancing patient care concepts and principles to support the agency's ability to meet its mission.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Dietitian: Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in the field of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists. OR Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0630 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing medical nutrition therapy through nutrition assessment, diagnosis and intervention, and educating patients, staff or medical students on topics of nutrition. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
