Summary

You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (ELECTRICAL) in the ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DIVISION, CHIEF ENGINEER, ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

  • You will coordinate resolution of technical problems with PNS Waterfront execution including project teams, project superintendents, Chief Test Engineers and the Trouble Desk.
  • You will direct troubleshooting efforts for complex problems and determine nature and extent of problems and the actions needed to resolve conflicting requirements and constraints.
  • You will author technical products (technical work documents, troubleshooting procedures, non-conformances, etc) and review technical products authored by technical branch staff.
  • You will develop/incorporate state of the art equipment and technology to improve PNS production capabilities and efficiency.
  • You will represent the Branch Head in meetings with outside organizations (NAVSEA, TYCOM, Ships Force, contractors, etc) regarding systems within the senior engineer’s discipline.
  • You will develop and maintain introductory and expert level training in Code 270 cognizant systems, identify new division training methods and opportunities in Code 270 cognizant systems

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying knowledge of engineering concepts, principles, and practices applicable to the full range of duties performed on submarine electrical and electronic systems. Experience directing troubleshooting efforts for all complex problems related to the electrical/electronic systems assigned. Experience developing new approaches in solving a variety of engineering problems not resolved by accepted methods. Experience communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, sufficient for formally training and mentoring junior engineer and technicians. Experience authoring and maintaining certain local and organizational authored process instructions.
