Summary
The United States Attorney's Office for South Carolina's mission is to investigate, prosecute and deter violations of federal statutes, enforce and represent the interests of the United States in civil litigation, uphold civil, constitutional and victims' rights, and foster partnerships with other federal, state and local government agencies and community groups. Duties
- This Investigator conducts extraordinarily difficult and complex investigations of violations of the False Claims Act, as well as other civil enforcement actions within the jurisdiction of the United States Attorney's Office. If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Investigator support in the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of South Carolina, located in Columbia, South Carolina, focusing in the areas of civil investigations, affirmative civil enforcement. Typical work assignments will include: Serving as lead agent in teams including investigators, auditors, and legal support staff from other law enforcement agencies. Coordinating large investigations with other federal or state agencies overseeing programs that receive federal funding to effectively prosecute civil enforcement actions. Planning and conducting extraordinarily complex and difficult civil, criminal, and fraud cases/investigations, most often of a confidential nature, involving target organizations with complex organizational structures, ownership and financial relations, and a large number of primary and subsidiary activities. Initiating contacts with federal, state and local officials and other organizations and individuals related to subject of investigation for the purpose of gathering facts, obtaining statements, learning sequences of events, obtaining explanations and otherwise advancing investigative objectives. Analyzing data, reports and other sources to identify possible subjects for investigation.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying: To qualify at the GS-13 level, you must possess: Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) (4) of the (5) duties listed below: Applying laws, regulations, policies, and procedures sufficient to plan or conduct health program claims investigations or interviews; Leading or directing investigative teams to ensure compliance with applicable regulations; Providing analytical advice with respect to investigations and evidence to identify potential fraudulent behavior; Coordinating surveillance of suspects with appropriate law enforcement/investigative agencies; Utilizing office automation tools and applications for litigation support and trial presentation programs, to capture, review or organize data to present documentary evidence for use by attorneys in court.
