Summary

About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.

Duties

  • Directs Anniston Army Depot's (ANAD) strategic communications and public affairs programs, leading command information, public information, and community relations activities for the depot and tenant organizations.
  • Advises the Command Group on communication strategy, public issues, media engagement, and crisis communication, and serves as the installation’s official spokesperson.
  • Develops and executes communication plans to inform employees, media, community leaders, and government officials on ANAD missions, policies, programs, and emergency actions.
  • Leads media relations and outreach by preparing speeches, news releases, articles, and other materials, while building effective relationships with media, civic leaders, and stakeholders.
  • Oversees visual information services, including photography, graphics, video, television production, the depot newspaper, and other internal and external communication platforms.
  • Supervises office personnel by assigning work, evaluating performance, developing staff, and ensuring compliance with EEO, safety, security, training, and workforce management requirements.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates experience serving as the official spokesperson and primary contact for local and national media. Developing and implementing crisis communication plans. Leading strategic public affairs operations, orchestrating public information, community engagement, and multimedia dissemination across broadcast outlets, external press, depot workforce, and surrounding communities. Planning, developing, and disseminating news releases, articles and various other types of mass communication information to internal and external audiences. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to Detail Communications and Media Information Management Oral Communication Writing Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
