Training Range Technician

Summary

About the Position: This position is responsible for providing assistance with managing the Range Training facilities at Fort Devens Reserve Forces Training Area and facilities. This position is a TERM Not to Exceed 13 months position. It is time-limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years.

Duties

• Inspects and oversees usage of training areas by active duty and reserve components of all military services.
• Assists the Range Safety Officer in monitoring all firing and training activities conducted within the range
• Completes paperwork for issue/turn-in of equipment provided for use during exercises
• Operates the firing desk and maintains fire control boards/computer systems to reflect current range and training area status and activities.
• Provide tracking airspace utilization data and submit an annual utilization report.
• Coordinates medical evacuation, fire, accident, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and other emergency requests between using units and responding personnel. Notifies Devens Fire Department in case of range or brush fire.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) maintaining proper control over the use of live fire training areas, restricted airspace, and/or training facilities; and 2) utilizing office automation equipment and software. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as safety management, emergency management, natural resources management, recreation management, public administration, business administration, or other fields related to the position to be filled. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
