Summary
The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in organizationally in Information Technology, Operations, National Museum of the American Latino (NMAL), Under Secretary for Museums and Culture, Smithsonian Institution (SI).
Duties
- The Information Technology Specialist is responsible for the continuity and quality of assigned web services and performs or coordinates website administration, development, integration, accessibility, cybersecurity, release and support work according to SI ownership and governance. In this position, you will: Administer, maintain and improve NMAL's Drupal public website and related web applications. Perform routine operational support and resolves technical issues affecting content authors, museum staff, partners and public users. Manage dependencies and configuration using SI-approved practices appropriate to the environment. Ensure that websites, applications, documents and digital content meet applicable Section 508, SI accessibility, and WCAG Level AA requirements. Support data exchange and API integrations between the website and approved museum or enterprise services. Improve the usability and effectiveness of digital experiences through user-centered design, information architecture, responsive interface implementation, analytics and iterative testing.
Qualifications
Individual Occupational Requirements Basic Requirement: Alternative A (for GS-5 through GS-11): Major study--computer science, information science, information systems management, mathematics, statistics, operations research, or engineering, or course work that required the development or adaptation of computer programs and systems and provided knowledge equivalent to a major in the computer field. OR For GS-11: Experience that demonstrated accomplishment of computer project assignments that required a range of knowledge of computer requirements and techniques. For example, assignments would show, on the basis of general design criteria provided, experience in developing modifications to parts of a system that required significant revisions in the logic or techniques used in the original development. Accomplishments, in addition to those noted for the GS-9 level, normally involve the following, or the equivalent: Knowledge of the customary approaches, techniques, and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization; Planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls; and Adaptation of guidelines or precedents to the needs of the assignment. In addition to the basic qualification requirement above: Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as experience with developing, administering, maintaining, and securing websites and web applications, including content management, troubleshooting, web security, accessibility and user support. OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related In addition to meeting the Specialized Experience for the Information Technology Specialist, GS-2210 occupation for the GS-11 (or equivalent) position, individuals must have related experience demonstrating each of the six competencies listed below: Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Technical Competence – Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.
