EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST (TITLE 32)

Summary

This National Guard position is for a EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1257000 and is part of the G4-SMM located in Draper, with the Utah Army National Guard. IAW UTNGR 690-12 dated AUG 2022, Priority will be given to all current, onboard employees of the UTARNG. The selecting supervisor for this vacancy is CPT George Eckersley.

Duties

• Major Duties: This is not an all-inclusive list As a EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST (TITLE 32), GS-1670-9, you will: Serves as a recognized authority on the repair and operation of various types of ARNG equipment. Provides instruction and assistance regarding equipment maintenance procedures, techniques, and methods as a part of the Maintenance Assistance and Instruction Team (MAIT). Provides advice, assistance, and guidance regarding maintenance management systems, material readiness programs, cost reduction programs, and maintenance shop practices in maintenance facilities. Receives reviews, and processes unit Army Material Status System (AMSS) reports and Missile Material Readiness reports and submits a consolidated report to the Logistics Support Activity (LOGSA). Prepares and conducts both classroom and on-the-job training designed to upgrade, improve, and/or update the knowledge and working skills of unit maintenance personnel. Evaluates directives to ensure adherence to standard methods, conformity in maintenance procedures, and the proper use of maintenance equipment, facilities, and personnel. Recommends policy, procedure, or operation changes, as required, to facilitate and ensure efficiency in maintenance operations and manpower utilization. Reviews the effectiveness and efficiency of equipment and maintenance management and needs for improvement of existing practices and the impact on the overall maintenance program. Reviews and evaluates information in technical reports, logistical studies, supply data systems, and observations/inspections of maintenance organizations. Utilizes computer software programs to identify errors, equipment, non-mission capable time, and to determine a course of action to improve readiness. Recommends the revision of higher headquarters' policies, procedures, practices, and regulations. Provides methods for improving, consolidating, simplifying, and standardizing operations and management of maintenance activities. Performs hands on maintenance procedures to personnel on proper trade techniques, practices, and explains safety precautions involved in maintenance. Performs assistance visits to logistic and maintenance functional areas to provide guidance and assistance to ensure effective and smooth maintenance operations.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training which has provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more classes of equipment. The experience must include knowledge of standard shop terminology. A basic knowledge of mechanical principles relating to equipment. Experience must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret blue prints and technical publications. Knowledge is of the type gained from technical training, education, and experience in functions such as repairing, overhauling, maintaining, constructing, or inspecting equipment. Experience using computer and automation systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-1670-9 (Must provide SF 50 showing experience in occupational series to qualify) OR Must have experience, education, or training which provided knowledge and skill in applying commonly used equipment, facility, or service principles and concepts. Experience in the use of tools and test equipment. Experience which provided knowledge of maintenance programs and techniques. Knowledge and skill in applying principles, concepts, and methods of equipment design. Experience in the use of tools and test equipment. Experience developing, installing, inspecting, or revising equipment maintenance programs and techniques.

Requirements

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Military membership in the Utah National Guard is required. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Pending analysis, you may be required to complete a new 1-year probationary period when moved to this position IAW CNGBI 1400.25. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Medical screening will be completed upon selection for hire. Soldiers who accept a technician position may be terminated from the Bonus and Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP). Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
