Duties
- Organizes and executes the activities of Department of the Air Force (DAF) earned and organic media, ensuring that all content and marketing activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet customer needs. Responsible for news media operations, social media activities, internal (command) information, civic outreach, congressional relations, visual information, communication planning and assessment, contingency/crisis response, and resource management. Serves as a strategic communications professional responsible for developing and executing comprehensive media outreach campaigns to provide and secure high-quality coverage and publicity for DAF messages and initiatives across traditional, digital, and emerging media platforms. Represents the organization with a variety of councils, boards, working groups, and panels inside and outside the agency. Serves as a strategic communications adviser to Marketing leadership, playing a critical role in policy formulation by analyzing and advising on potential public and media reactions to imagery, proposed policies, plans, and organizational actions while developing and evaluating comprehensive communication strategies, goals, objectives, and supporting materials.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level (or other equivalent pay systems) in federal service which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position being filled. Specialized experience is experience which includes securing media coverage and publicity for initiatives across various media outlets, requiring excellent communication, media relations, and storytelling skills, and a preference for collaborative environments; collaborate with partners to execute media relations strategies and to evaluate opportunities for new and non-traditional media spaces and managing social media program, as well as emerging mediums. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of the methods, concepts, and techniques to develop, research, analyze, and evaluate written materials and visual information products to effectively prepare communication products on matters of importance while representing a wide variety of organizations and viewpoints. Skill in gathering, evaluating, and interpreting data sufficient to arrive at valid conclusions and to offer meaningful recommendations. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
