About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. A recruitment incentive may be authorized.

Duties

• Performs daily spore testing and sterilizer control measures as it relates to quality assurance, principles of sterilization and elimination of cross contamination.
• Assembles, adjusts, maintains, and applies the processing procedures for the full range of medical and surgical supplies and equipment used in the hospital.
• Identifies and utilizes substitute instruments and equipment necessary to avoid delay or cancellation of surgery or procedures.
• Receives a full range of reusable medical supplies, instruments and equipment from hospital wards, clinics and operating rooms.
• Decontaminates re-usable items by determining the appropriate method for removing gross contamination (such as blood, tissue, bone) and using equipment such as the ultrasonic cleaner, dryer, and washer decontaminator.
• Assembles a wide variety of instrument trays and sets used for medical and surgical procedures.
• Checks for damaged or missing items and arranges for replacements, maintenance, or repair as needed.
• Operates an automated office information processing system (computer, printer, etc.), to produce, store and process information material to include the daily surgical schedule and the surgeons' preference cards.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assembling medical instrument trays for sterilization process;ensuring compliance of surgical instrument sets and peel packs with relevant regulations and polices; and/or decontaminating a comprehensive range of reusable medical supplies and/or equipment utilized in surgeries or other medical procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
