Summary
Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the Department of Defense (DoD) in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information. Pay for first time hires to the Federal Government will typically be set at step 1 salary range for their respective grade level.
Duties
- Makes recommendations on best practices to improve predictive analytics, data sampling, data warehousing processes, and other uses of advanced analytics and information technology.
- Identifies trends, correlations, and causations within large datasets to provide a synopsis of emerging trends, challenges, and recommendations for change.
- Develops and implements dynamic data visualizations and interactive reporting to provide meaningful insight from the data (such as dashboards, scorecards, and graphs).
- Utilizes expert knowledge of finance and accounting processes, regulations, and systems to assess and improve upon the reliability, usability, and relevance of the data housed in DFAS systems.
- Coordinates metrics and other financial issues with executive management, OUSD management, DFAS Internal Review, Strategic Business Management, and the audit community.
Qualifications
This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense via delegated authority by the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Applicants MUST have related financial experience AND/OR a related financial degree (examples include: Finance, Accounting, Management, Actuarial Science, or related), in addition to meeting Office of Personnel Management (OPM) minimum qualification requirements. Substitution of combination of education and experience must still, in conjunction, minimally satisfy the DHA qualification requirement. One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-12) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized experience is defined as: Collecting, measuring, analyzing, and reporting financial management data; developing and implementing dynamic data visualizations and interactive reporting; identifying areas for new content based on the needs of the organization. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.
