Deputy Inspector General

Summary

This position is located in the Immediate Office of the Inspector General, in Washington, DC. The mission of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is to detect and deter fraud, waste, abuse and misconduct in the Department of Justice (DOJ). In addition, the OIG assists DOJ managers in promoting integrity, economy, efficiency, and effectiveness of DOJ programs and operations.

Duties

• The Deputy Inspector General is a member of the Senior Executive Service (SES) and OIG's senior leader and provides executive leadership over the day-to-day administration and operations of the OIG. The DIG participates with the IG in establishing program policies, objectives and priorities and develops the strategic plans for accomplishing the OIG mission, including exercising the following responsibilities: Oversees critical organizational functions involving criminal investigations, inspections, audits and legal programs. Provides the necessary input on Attorney General and Congressional inquiries relating to OIG matters; Provides advice and assistance to the IG on key issues affecting the organization including political, legal, economic, social, technological and administrative factors impacting the functions and work of the OIG; Participates in the overall management and supervision of assigned resources; Assigns special projects and workload, determines staffing requirements, prepares and/ or approves budget submissions and exercises executive management authority in carrying out the functions and activities of the OIG. Performs other duties as assigned.

MANDATORY TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS (MTQs):Your resume should demonstrate accomplishments that would satisfy the technical qualifications. MTQ 1: Inspector General Oversight and Accountability Demonstrated expert knowledge of the principles, authorities, standards, and practices governing Offices of Inspectors General, including oversight of audits, investigations, inspections, evaluations, and legal programs. Demonstrated ability to apply this expertise to direct complex oversight activities, ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and professional standards, and promote accountability, integrity, and effectiveness across a large federal organization. MTQ 2: Strategic Executive Management of a Federal Oversight Organization Demonstrated expertise in the executive management of a complex federal oversight organization, including resource management, organizational operations, and advising senior government officials on legal, operational, legislative, and policy matters. Demonstrated ability to align organizational priorities with mission objectives while ensuring effective stewardship of resources and successful execution of agency programs. EXECUTIVE CORE QUALIFICATIONS (ECQs):In addition to the Mandatory Technical Qualifications listed above, all new entrants into the Senior Executive Service (SES) under a career appointment will be assessed for executive competency against the following five mandatory ECQs. ECQ 3: Merit and Competence - This core qualification involves the demonstrated knowledge, ability and technical competence to effectively and reliably produce work that is of exceptional quality. ECQ 4: Leading People - This core qualification involves the demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a group toward meeting the organization's vision, mission, and goals, and to drive a high-performance, high-accountability culture. This includes, when necessary, the ability to lead people through change and to hold individuals accountable. ECQ 5: Achieving Results - This core qualification involves the demonstrated ability to achieve both individual and organizational results, and to align results to stated goals from superiors. Note: Applicants who are a current member of the SES, have SES reinstatement eligibility, or have completed the SES Candidate Development Program (CDP) and have had their ECQs certified by OPM must attach proof of eligibility for noncompetitive appointment to the SES (e.g. SF-50, QRB Certificate, etc.) as part of their application.
