Summary

THIS IS AN ARMY NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a TITLE 32 RANGE OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN (MI FCTC), Position Description Number NGD2799000 and is part of the MI FCTC, Michigan Army National Guard. MICHIGAN ARMY NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Duties

  • ***THIS IS A TITLE 32 NATIONAL GUARD POSITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP*** This position is located with an Army National Guard (ARNG), Garrison Training Center (GTC), Range Operations. The primary purpose of this position is to assist in the daily operations of range control and provide maintenance support to targets and other live fire enablers. Serves as a point of contact for information regarding training center range operations. The incumbent is responsible for operational support for all ranges to include preventative maintenance of all automated targeting systems. Inspects and troubleshoots all automated target systems and their components. Ensures that controls, target mechanisms, and all other target effects (thermal, movement, battle effects simulators, etc.) are operational prior to and after use. Ensures that supporting generators and equipment are operational. Provides maintenance support during live fire training exercises. Plans and executes range support and maintenance operations. Conducts range, training land, and facility inspections to identify unsafe conditions. Facilitates needed modernization and improvements, and any required repairs. Inspects ranges and training areas to determine compliance with applicable safety and environmental standards. Assists in developing standard operating procedures for use and operation of facilities. May be required to maintain rosters of personnel with approved or pending security clearances. May prepare and maintain security control records for classified material received, contents of classified document containers and ensures disposal of outdated documents as prescribed by regulations. When required, participates as member of a range wildfire suppression crew on ranges and within the training areas. Technicians will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (Grade Inversion). Enlisted members currently at a higher grade than allowed by the position (see Military Grade Requirement above) may apply; however, they must administratively reduce prior to appointment and provide confirmation of the reduction to HRO. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training which indicates the candidate performed progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have 1 year equivalent to at least next lower grade level. Experience assisting in daily range operations, including conducting inspections, performing preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting automated target systems and related equipment. Experience must include supporting live-fire training by maintaining generators, target mechanisms, and range infrastructure, as well as identifying and coordinating required repairs or improvements. Applicants must have experience applying safety and environmental standards during range and training area inspections and preparing or managing operational documentation such as range schedules, NOTAMs, training directives, and risk assessment worksheets. Experience coordinating with training units or range personnel in a military environment is required. QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed.
