Summary

This position is located at Joint Base Lewis-McChord Sports, Fitness and Aquatics Program. This position will have a first cut off of August 25, 2026, and applicants that submit a complete application packet prior to that date and found eligible may be given first consideration. Incentives and Bonuses Incentives will not be paid. Regular Part Time appointments are guaranteed 20 hours per work week and are eligible for all Army NAF benefits.

Duties

  • Serves as a lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools and works under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager.
  • Responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility. Provides maximum pool area surveillance and responds to emergencies; rescues pool patrons and administers first aid as required.
  • Assists in maintaining pool and area clean and free from any hazards. Provides information to swimmers regarding safety/health/admissions rules and procedures. Maintains daily logs, reports, and records as required.
  • Tactfully warns patrons who repeatedly disregard safety rules, and follows facility Standard Operating Procedures for disciplinary actions. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess the following: Possesses and maintains the following certifications: Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS) American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional; CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED) First Aid For Water Parks upgrade the certification to: 'Waterpark Lifeguarding and First Aid; CPR/PR/AED' (American Red Cross) In addition, for facilities that use Oxygen Administration "O2 bottles" the O2 Administration certification (American Red Cross "Oxygen Administration or installation offered training (i.e. Fire Dept.) must be obtained within two weeks of reporting for duty.
