Environmental Protection Specialist (Temporary)

Summary

You will serve as a Environmental Protection Specialist (Temporary) for Glacier National Park. This is a temporary position not-to-exceed one year with potential to be extended for an additional one year for a maximum of two years based on agency needs and potential funding. Duties

• Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Functions as an environmental specialist who assists with all aspects of compliance processes and environmental documentation for the park. Assists in the preparation, internal review, and the public involvement and review process for assigned environmental compliance documents, including but not limited to environmental assessments and biological assessments. Ensures documents are technically adequate and conform to the National Environmental Policy Act and other environmental laws, regulations, policies and guidelines. Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team and assists with gathering information and evaluating proposals.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/07/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: assisting with preparation of environmental analysis; producing written information, including technical material; and gathering and managing information for compliance relating to natural and/or cultural resources or similar. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least master's or equivalent graduate degree.-OR-2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Or LL.B. Or J.E., if related. You must include transcripts.-OR-Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take the number of semester or quarter hours completed and divide by the total number to complete the degree. Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ICTAP/CTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special prior­ity selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection.
