Television Programming and Planning Specialist

Summary

This position is part of the Department of War, War Media Activity (WMA). Responsible for delivering media services that keep the American Forces Network (AFN) audience informed and in touch while improving morale and military readiness.

Duties

• As a Television Programming and Planning Specialist at the GS-1001-12 some of your typical work assignments may include: Develops and executes specific tactical plans that support the strategic, long-term goals of AFN television services worldwide. Executes the TV programming strategy for the AFN Now video streaming platform, ensuring a diverse mix of U.S. series, movies, sports, and specials. Researches and analyzes CONUS audience viewing patterns, industry trends, and demographic data (utilizing Nielsen and Defense Manpower Data Center reports) to project future preferences. Recommends program acquisitions by researching program availability, organizing media data, and analyzing trade media for future selection leads. Creates and maintains accurate database records, generates purchase orders, and prepares gratis acquisition documentation. Reviews and verifies acquisition information and metadata to ensure all published programming strictly meets contractual obligations and legal usage limits. Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-12, if you fulfill the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service: Developing data-driven television programming strategies by analyzing Nielsen ratings, audience viewing patterns, and industry trends to inform program acquisition and scheduling for a global broadcast network. Executing multi-platform programming plans, from content acquisition and database management to tracking syndication feeds and digital rights for both linear satellite channels and the American Forces Network (AFN) Now streaming service. Researching, selecting, and curating a wide range of U.S. television content, including news, entertainment, and specials, while collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure strategic goals and audience engagement are met. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
