Summary
About the Position: Executes geospatial program requirements independently under the broad guidance of the United States Forces Korea Command Engineer, determining methodologies and resolving technical conflicts to ensure successful mission execution. Duties
- Manage analytical studies and plan program requirements for the exchange and production of geospatial mapping information while coordinating with external engineering and intelligence partner organizations.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of production processes for geospatial products and data to execute study improvements, modify workflows, and review technical, operational, and equipment proposals.
- Maintain the operational integrity, security, and quality control of the common operating picture web portal, authoritative databases, and published map services across multiple networks.
- Develop standardization specifications for cartographic methods and research to ensure database compliance with national facility standards and provide technical support to production teams.
- Perform specialized spatial analyses and terrain assessments using advanced mapping software to create integrated datasets and dynamic web applications that support strategic planning.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. Basic Requirements: Degree: cartography; or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such course work includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites). or Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes the following: 1) Perform complex spatial and terrain assessments by applying advanced cartographic principles and utilizing specialized geospatial software; 2) Lead operational studies by planning and executing project phases while coordinating mission requirements across multiple organizations; 3) Oversee authoritative databases and metadata by managing access controls and secure data publication across large enterprise networks; and 4) Evaluate technical workflows to establish compliance standards, resolve system anomalies, and document operational process improvements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12). To be eligible for promotion or placement under this plan, applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, or within 30 calendar days after the date of the rating for open continuous announcements.
