Social Worker (Coordinator)

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Duties

• Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Social Worker is the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Coordinator for Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) and the HealthCare for Homeless Programs (HCHV). This position provides case management and intervention support to SSFV in a team oriented, recovery based program. The SSVF SUD Coordinator supports the SSFV by providing continuity of care between homeless programs through service to Veterans with SUDs. Duties include but are not limited to: Provides direct SUD services for SSVF Grantees. Provides outreach services services for SSVF Grantees. Provides training for other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team in areas related to SUD assessment, anger management and life skills and SUD with co-occurring disorders. Independently conducts intake and needs assessment of homeless veterans and their significant others. Identifies symptoms leading to clinical diagnosis of SUDs. Provides all necessary assessment functions, e.g interviewing psychosocial histories and SUD assessments to aid in the development of treatment plans. Develops comprehensive treatment plans with the Veteran. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3.g.) Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency Requirement - Per VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, Paragraph 3j: No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C., chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA who is not proficient in written and spoken English. Education - Candidates must have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure - Social workers at the GS-12 must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which included an advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice) and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Experience: In additional to meeting the basic requirements as stated above, you must have the following: GS-12 Level: Social Worker (Program Coordinator) must posses at least One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to: perform assessments and evaluations, treatment plans, case management and SUD treatment, interventions for early assistance in treating relapse in homeless Veterans with SUD and co-occurring disorder histories and are able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s). Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice.
