Duties

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Aircraft Mechanic without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: maintaining and repairing rotary wing aircraft to include changing oil and hydraulic pumps, lubricating aircraft components, and a variety of less complex maintenance functions. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Trouble Shooting Physical Effort: Makes repairs from work stands, and where parts worked on are in hard to reach places. This requires climbing, standing, stooping, bending, stretching and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items that weigh about 50 pounds. Good distant vision and ability to read printed material without strain, glasses permitted. Ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid. Some positions require the ability to distinguish either basic or shades of colors. Applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Working Conditions: The work at this grade is done inside and outside. Inside areas are drafty and noisy, and fumes are usually present. May make some repairs outside in bad weather. Dirt, dust, and grease are almost always present. Aircraft fluids, such as oil and hydraulic fluids may irritate the eyes or skin. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, burns, shocks, strains, and broken bones.
