Summary
This position serves as a laborer with the Facility Management Department at the Pine Ridge Service Unit in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. The position performs a variety of laboring duties, including ground maintenance, cleaning, and general facility and surrounding area maintenance. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
Duties
- Performs general maintenance and grounds maintenance tasks. Performs cleaning and custodial tasks using appropriate equipment and supplies. Operates and performs routine maintenance on hand tools, power tools, and grounds/cleaning equipment. Moves, stocks, and delivers materials, supplies, and equipment. Assists with preventive maintenance and minor repairs and identifies or reports needed repairs.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Have the ability to perform the work of a Laborer (Maintenance), without more than normal supervision. Following oral or written instructions and/or work orders; replacing ceiling tile, washing windows, unplugging drains with plunger, changing light bulbs, hauling materials and supplies to restock store rooms; performing janitorial/custodial duties such as, emptying outdoor trash bins, picking up trash, cleaning work areas and grounds and cleaning windows, and grounds maintenance duties, including mowing, trimming, blowing clippings, washing off entrances, landscaping, performing ice and snow removal from sidewalks and entrance ways; performing cleanup of spills, debris, and litter from outside areas and in maintenance areas, operate high-pressure washers, large riding mowers, chainsaws, jackhammers, and industrial cleaning equipment such as buffers, vacuums, and shampooers. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. You will be rated on the following Job Elements as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: - Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Element 1 (Screen-out) - Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprints) - Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment - Dexterity and Safety Physical Effort: Position requires very heavy physical effort, including operating riding lawn mowers on grades and around obstacles, and frequently lifting and moving equipment or components weighing over 60 pounds. Working Conditions: Position requires work both indoors and outdoors with frequent exposure to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust, and dirt. Work may be performed in government quarters, field clinics, and hospital areas. Duties require extreme care and the use of appropriate safety equipment such as gloves, hearing protection, safety glasses, respirators, and steel-toed shoes. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
