Summary

You will serve as a CHEMIST in the ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY BRANCH of the LABORATORY DIVISION, QUALITY ASSURANCE DEPARTMENT of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF).

Duties

• You will perform complex chemical and physical analysis on a diverse range of materials.
• You will perform calibration of complex analytical instruments following approved procedures using appropriate standards while ensuring calibration traceability.
• You will recommend and develop improved techniques and methods for sample preparation and analysis.
• You will determine appropriate established procedure to use for routine and non-routine samples by reviewing background information.
• You will plan, design, coordinate, and oversee execution of method validation studies to evaluate method suitability.
• You will prepare and revise procedures and implement modifications necessary to accommodate the specific types of test instrumentation and equipment available in the laboratory.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional Chemist, planning, coordinating, and conducting chemical and instrumental analysis of samples supporting Navy customer requirements. Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Basic Requirements: Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
