Summary
You will serve as a Forestry Worker. This position is in the Forestry Department, Roads and Trails Branch, Division of Facilities Management in Yosemite National Park. Primary responsibility is to provide for public safety, protect property and to preserve natural and cultural resources by safely mitigating tree hazards within Yosemite National Park.
Duties
- Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Incumbent climbs and performs tree hazard removal work in a variety of broadleaf and coniferous trees. Uses specialized equipment and techniques developed for tree work to perform these tasks. Recognizes tree defects, species characteristics, and other environmental conditions that may affect or compromise climber safety. Uses chainsaw to take down trees of all sizes and complexity with accuracy in developed and non-developed areas. Uses tree felling cuts and specialized tools to fell trees in desired direction. Recognizes tree species, defects, wood characteristics and environmental hazards that may alter desired felling results. Designs, installs, utilizes, and maintains complex material handling gear and rigging systems. Uses rigging gear to catch, lower, or move large sections of trees in very limited spaces, such as above or between buildings, without causing damage to property or equipment. Operates heavy equipment to maneuver logs, trees, and slash around standing trees and buildings on uneven terrain without damaging property or equipment. Drives loaded trucks on steep mountainous roads in muddy, icy, or snow conditions.

Requirements
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. You may be required to work weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. Must possess and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or higher. If only a Class B license, you must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A within 1 year of start date. Pre-employment and random alcohol and drug testing are required. You will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive test is received. Required Occupancy for one of the positions only. You are required to wear a uniform and comply with the uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1 year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. This Probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service. Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated. Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
Education
There is no substitution of education for experience for Federal Wage System (FWS) positions.
