Supervisory Electronics Technician

Summary

This position is located with the Chief Information Office (CIO). The CIO manages the Information Resources environment for the Forest Service. The individual will be responsible for facilitating the coordination with field and Forest Service leadership for all information technology infrastructure, business applications, and information management services. Duties

• Supervises and performs the installation and corrective/preventive maintenance of Land Mobile Radio systems which may include:.
• Tower work oversight, repeater diagnostics, and incident support that cannot be performed remotely and require physical presence across multiple forests or service areas.
• Utilizes test equipment including service monitors, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, time domain reflectometers, digital multimeters, signal generators, and megohmmeters.
• Highly skilled, experienced in and comprehensive knowledge of: Radio systems: UHF/VHF radios, portable and mobile radios, antenna systems, base stations, repeaters and microwaves.
• Ability to apply new technologies, experience, and judgment to solve a variety of highly complex technical problems involving researching, analyzing, testing, diagnosing, tuning, and aligning complex radio systems.

Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-12: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Providing technical leadership in the development, enhancement, and integration of land mobile radio (LMR) systems; and/or Installing, maintaining, repairing, and performing corrective/preventive maintenance on LMR systems, components and links; and/or Solving a variety of technical problems involving researching, analyzing, testing, diagnosing, tuning, and aligning LMR systems to restore or ensure continuous and reliable operations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
