Summary

This position to be filled in the Nursing-Birthing Center at the Whiteriver Service Unit in Whiteriver, AZ. The Incumbent will provide direction, leadership, management, and supervision of subordinate's staff, provide performance evaluations, approve leave requests, implement career development plans, and coordinate continuing education needs. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Duties

  • Primary responsibilities of this position are to provide supervision, leadership, and direction of subordinate staff on the Obstetric Unit. Oversees Obstetric Unit Nursing Education and Internship program. Approves orientation plan for each new employees specific to their skills and the needs of the unit and agency. Facilitates employee participation for in-services and continuing education by scheduling staff to attend development programs, resulting in more qualified and competent staff. Performs nursing care duties as needed to maintain nursing skills and cover staffing shortages. Maintains clinical competence and expertise in specialty area. Provides skilled and comprehensive nursing care to the patients, who because of the extensiveness and complexity of their condition require frequent for conditions, which may require emergency measures. Gives medication as ordered view approved route. Understands the side effect of these medications.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level. Examples of experience include: The ability to effectively supervise and manage nursing personnel in a health care setting. Qualifying supervisory experience includes responsibility for assigning and evaluating work; providing leadership and direction to nursing staff; assessing staff performance and clinical competencies; providing or recommending training and development; addressing performance and conduct issues; participating in personnel actions; ensuring appropriate staffing and scheduling; coordinating nursing activities with providers and other members of the interdisciplinary health care team; and promoting compliance with applicable nursing standards, policies, and patient safety requirements. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
