Summary

About the Position: This position is assigned to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy (DASD (MC&FP), Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs (M&RA), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Personnel and Readiness (USD (P&R)). This position may be eligible for situational telework as determined by the agency policy.

Duties

  • Oversee the execution of contracted non-medical counseling programs focused on addressing the needs and challenges of service members and their families.
  • Ensure a continuum of quality support, intervention or non-medical counseling for service members and/or their families.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with national, state, local, and military leaders with vested interests in improving quality of life for service members and their families.
  • Initiate partnerships with military services and reserve components to resolve a variety of complex issues involving service members and their families.
  • Plan new approaches and programs arising from proposed legislation and the latest DoD commitments.
  • Evaluate support programs reflecting the needs of service members and their families.
  • Organize program statistical information to provide recommendations or interpretations of non-medical counseling program data.
  • Deliver presentations to audiences on services available for service members and/or their families.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Specialized Experience GS 14: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating non-medical counseling programs, collaborating with various stakeholders to develop strategic plans for non-medical counseling programs, advising senior management officials on policy and procedural changes, and analyzing and/or developing policy of programs for non-medical counseling programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement GS-13: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12). Time in Grade Requirement GS-14: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
