  • ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** The Technical Writer-Editor is responsible for developing, managing, and coordinating research grant proposals to federal funding agencies, private foundations, non-profit organizations, and commercial entities; managing submissions to scientific publications, including writing, editing, and overseeing timelines, supporting additional writing and editing needs such as annual and community reports, scientific presentations, press releases, and website/social media content. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Leading and managing writing and editing needs for Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) Center research programs. Serving as the primary contact with funding agencies to gather application specifications and ensuring that application comply. Developing, managing, and coordinating research grant proposals. Writing and editing a variety of complex scientific grant proposals, journals, manuscripts using a substantial knowledge of medical science, research, and related fields. Creating and managing submissions to scientific publications and journals. Writing and editing scientific educational presentations, publications, news releases for Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) program. Preparing post-funding reports, analysis, and analytics. Coaching and assisting investigators during article writing, managing references, and advising on content and submission requirements. Creating educational, public and media content that showcase center capabilities. Preparing annual reports highlighting Center accomplishments and achievements. Performing other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 10/5/2027). Term appointments are non-status, non-permanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4-year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-7) in Federal Service that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Technical Writer-Editor GS-9. Specialized experience is experience that requires substantial subject-matter or technical knowledge of the field. This experience must have demonstrated the ability to acquire and present technical information through independent reading, interviews with subject-matter specialists, observation of tests and experiments, interpretation of blueprints or diagrams, or other appropriate methods. Such experience may have been acquired as a writer or editor of technical reports, articles, manuals, or specifications. NOTE: Your experience must be fully documented in your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION: A Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of graduate-level education leading to such a degree, or an LL.B. or J.D, if related. This education must have included a total of 15 semester hours in an appropriate scientific, technical, or social science field(s), and at least one course above the introductory level in the field(s) covered by the position. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school. OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate-level education and specialized experience, as described above, which meets the total experience requirements for this grade level. AND IN ADDITION TO THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION, YOU MUST ALSO MEET THE FOLLOWING SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position includes a Selective Placement Factor (skill, knowledge, ability or other worker characteristic basic to - and essential for - satisfactory performance of the job). Selective Placement Factors are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for a position. Applicants who do not meet it are ineligible for further consideration.
