Summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive Service Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The employee uses a knowledge of the refrigeration cycle of a variety of commercial and industrial systems to locate and check elements such as those whichcontrol pressure, temperature, and the running time of the various mechanisms.
Duties
- Installs, repairs, overhauls, and performs service and preventive maintenance on a variety of residential, commercial, and industrial air conditioners, air compressors, boilers, dehumidifiers, refrigerators, ventilation systems, and water heaters.
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment to trace and locate defects and malfunctions.
- Makes periodic inspections and necessary adjustments to controls and equipment to ensure safe, efficient operation.
- Repairs, installs, overhauls, and/or performs service and preventive maintenance to auxiliary equipment (motors, blowers, pilots, filters, thermostats, pressure stats, humid stats, relays, switches, etc.)
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heating & Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the full range of maintenance and repair duties as a Heating and Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic. I am skilled in troubleshooting, installing, repairing and modifying heating and air conditioning and refrigeration systems. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection --Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Physical Effort: Installations and repairs are made from ladders and platforms some parts of systems needing repair reach high places requiring scaffolding. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, stretching, climbing, and working in uncomfortable positions is required. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools, equipment, and parts-that weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing more Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside from ladders, scaffolding, required to work in inclement weather and noisy areas. Subject to electrical shocks, burns, gas, smoke, ashes, scalds, dust, sudden temperature changes, cuts, contaminants, refrigerant gases, dirt, grease, bad uncomfortable heat conditions, strains, scrapes, and broken bones.
