Duties

• Inspects, maintains, modifies, troubleshoots, repairs, overhauls, and tests a variety of major C-130 aircraft hydraulic and pneumatic systems, their assemblies, and components. Assist in the jacking of aircraft, books up power sources, and using cockpit controls and gauges and additional precision instruments, checks operation. Uses and maintains tools and test equipment repaired to accomplish duites. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Maintains records and documents actions.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8600, Engine Overhaul GroupWG-8600, Engine Overhaul Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a WG-8268 AIRCRAFT PNEUDRAULIC SYSTEMS MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: I. Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic principles; the physical laws governing the behavior of fluids (liquids and gases); basic electrical and mechanical principles; aircraft pneudraulic systems and pneudraulic equipment used in maintaining and checking aircraft pneudraulic equipment such as test stands and hydraulic jacks; and troubleshooting procedures designed to isolate malfunctions in aircraft pneudraulic systems. 2. Knowledge of aircraft structures; the relationship of aircraft pneudraulic systems to the structure and to other aircraft systems; and the relationship of the work of aircraft pneudraulic systems mechanic to the work of aircraft mechanics, aircraft electricians, and sheet metal mechanics (aircraft). 3. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures; documentation procedures; and other applicable publications and forms. 4. Ability to effect modifications, repairs, or maintenance required. 5. Ability to read and interpret technical orders, microfilm, manufacturers, specification manuals, parts supply books, blueprints, and schematic diagrams. Ability to operate test panels and ground power equipment such as hydraulic test stands, gas and electric air compressors, and fixed rectifiers; and use hand tools, jigs, fixtures, and special tools and instruments. 6. Ability to use computer terminals to maintain records and document actions. Physical Effort: Frequently handles objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally objects weighing up to 70 pounds with assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment. Required to lift, reach, bend, walk, pull, push, sit, and stand for prolonged periods of time. Required to reach and work in awkward or cramped position. Subject to high intensity and higher frequency sounds that impose a physical burden, Frequently climbs, up and down ladders, check stands, work platforms, scaffolding, and aircraft structures while making repairs or installations. Working Conditions: Work on flight lines, in hangers and in industrial shop environments. Subject to drafts and varying temperatures in hangars and shops, and weather, temperature, and noise extremes on flight lines. Expose to dust, dirt, grease, oil, fumes, solvents, and other aircraft fluids while working on aircraft in various stages of repair or modification. Employee is exposed to fluids under high pressures (9,000-10,000 pounds per square inch); falling from aircraft, work stands or slips on oily floors; falling objects, cuts, shocks, stains, or skin and eye irritations; and high intensity and higher frequency sounds waves. May be subject to exposure to potential injury from truing propellers or jet blast during engine run-ups. Various protective devices as ear plugs, face shields, gloves, safety shoes, and safety glasses are use. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
