Carpentry Worker

Summary

The position is in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief of Operations (OCO) and the incumbent is a participant in the Architect's Apprenticeship Program (AAP) serving in House Office Buildings (HOB). The AAP will equip the participant with hands-on experience and industry knowledge and training in a skilled trade. Key Requirement: A participation agreement and service agreement are required and will be provided to the selected applicant upon offer.

Duties

• Tour of Duty: 4:15 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and may change due to operational needs. Note: This is a career ladder position requiring the selectee to perform progressively more complex duties and responsibilities leading to the full performance level. The duties stated are at the WG-6 level. The Carpentry Worker is responsible for a range of duties including assisting journey level employees and workers by providing carpentry support for new construction and renovation projects as assigned. The amount of supervision required per assigned task will be determined by the grade upon entry into duty. Regardless of grade, all selected applicants will be required to have minimal computer related skills (outlook) and experiencing work in webTMA. Duties include, but are not limited to: Works beside a tradesperson under close supervision. Picks up and delivers items to be repaired or fabricated. Uses woodworking hand tools as instructed. Cleans tools, machines, and equipment. Keeps the work area clean and orderly. Assists with hanging artwork and pictures. Sands, repairs, scrapes, and prepares tables, chairs, and other furniture for refinishing. Assists the routine woodworking portions of renovation, construction, and Congressional or other move projects under close supervision. Assists with the installation of various types of office partitions and walls under close supervision. Must ensure the use of all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

You must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of the job announcement. You must meet the following SCREEN-OUT(S) required for this position: WG-05 applicants must have successfully completed the National Center for Construction Education and Research's (NCCER) course “Construction Orientation and Readiness Education (CORE). WG-06 applicants must have successfully completed NCCER's Carpentry I and II courses. WG-07 applicants must have successfully completed NCCER's Carpentry III and IV courses.

Requirements

To be employed by the Architect of the Capitol in a paid position, an individual must meet one of the categories below: A citizen of the United States; A person who is lawfully admitted for permanent residence and is seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)(B); A person who is admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157 or is granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. 1158 and has filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible; A person who owes allegiance to the United States (nationals of American Samoa, Swains Island, and the Northern Mariana Islands, and nationals who meet other requirements described in 8 U.S.C. 1408); or A person who is currently an officer or employee of the Government of the United States.

Education

To be eligible at the 5 level, applicants must have successfully completed the National Center for Construction Education and Research's (NCCER) course “Construction Orientation and Readiness Education (CORE). To be eligible at the 6 applicants must have successfully completed NCCER's Carpentry I and II courses. To be eligible at the 7 applicants must have successfully completed NCCER's Carpentry III and IV courses.
