Duties

  • The following are the duties of this position at the GS-5. You will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this developmental position. Utilizes available computer software (including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and graphics) in preparing memoranda, letters, reports, charts, forms and other material from rough drafts, oral instructions and handwritten notes. Serves as a consultant and reference source to other clerks in answering questions encountered in their work. Also serves as consultant to supervisor of the unit. Prepares transmittals of approved tax refund claims to Financial Management Division (FMD) for processing.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. To be eligible for the Recent Graduates Program, applicants must have, within the previous 2 years*, completed all educational requirements for a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying institution; or intended graduation is no more than 9 months from date of application. (However, you must graduate prior to being appointed to the position.) if applicable. For more information on education requirements go to Treasury's Pathways Program. *Veterans who, due to a military service obligation, were precluded from applying to a Recent Graduates Program during any portion of the 2 year eligibility period may have their eligibility period extended so that they receive the full 2 years of eligibility. The remaining 2-year eligibility period will begin upon his or her release or discharge from active duty. The veteran's eligibility period may not extend beyond 6 years from the date of completion of all requirements of an academic course of study. A. Education- In the Recent Graduates Program you may qualify based solely on education as follows: Four (4) years of education above the high school level. (Please attach copy of transcript or list of college courses designating semester or quarter hours earned to ensure proper credit.) OR B. Experience: You may qualify with one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: -Utilizing computer systems to enter data and prepare reports; OR -Reviewing files or documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance. OR C. You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To receive any credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate the number of hours worked per week, on your résumé. In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of the following skills, as appropriate. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test.
