Duties

  • The incumbent trains and supervises inmates in the manufacture and assembly of office furniture and related products, including systems furniture, chairs, task and office signage and light fixtures. Manufacturing processes include measuring, cutting, spot welding, drilling, assembly, upholstering, finishing, inspection, and packaging. Trains and supervises inmates in the use of a wide variety of tools and equipment necessary for the production of the office furniture and related products including routers, saws, drills, molders, planers, shapers, jig saws joiners, surfacers, tenoners, spot welders, sewing machines, fabric cutting equipment, cushion machines, pneumatic staple guns, upholstery presses, and gluing equipment, as well as a variety of hand tools and chemicals necessary for the manufacturing processes. The incumbent must have knowledge of, and skill in using the tools, equipment, machinery, manuals and drawings to perform the tasks as outlined for the position. The incumbent must be familiar with and have general skills in all facets of the manufacturing and assembly of office furniture and related products, and the operation of all types of machinery and tools related to the measurements, construction, assembly, upholstering, inspection, and finishing of such products. Additionally, he/she must have a good working knowledge of equipment assembly, installation and repair. The incumbent is responsible for adhering to safety procedures for hazardous material handling, OSHA requirements, and environmental issues. He/she insures inmates comply with Institution and OSHA Safety Regulations through example and lectures. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications
