Duties

• As a Criminal Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee, attorneys are responsible for the prosecution of a variety of violations of federal law including, but not limited to, organized violent crime, narcotics trafficking, immigration offenses, firearms violations, domestic and international terrorism, national security offenses, civil rights, white collar offenses and health care fraud. AUSAs are responsible for legal research and writing, directing investigations, case development, and case presentation in criminal cases. To be an effective prosecutor, the AUSA must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: Hiring for Assistant U.S. Attorney positions is highly competitive. The USAO seeks a diverse complement of lawyers with a wide range of exceptional skills and experience, unified by keen intelligence and sincere commitment to public interest. Superior academic credentials, excellent research and writing skills, a demonstrated commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service. Successful candidates must be computer proficient, capable of doing their own legal research and writing, and self-sufficient in preparing day to day correspondence and pleadings. Relevant favorable experience includes investigating and prosecuting criminal offenses. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
