Summary

You will serve as a Utility Systems Repairer-Operator Supervisor with the National Park Service in the New River Gorge National Park & Preserve.

Duties

  • As a Utility Systems Repairer-Operator Supervisor, you will perform the following duties: Supervises the operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of park water treatment and distribution systems and wastewater collection and treatment systems. Plans water and wastewater system maintenance and rehabilitation. Ensures contractors follow terms of the contract, rules and regulations, and adheres to contract drawings and texts. Reviews and reports lost time accidents. Collects water samples and conducts extensive testing of samples. Manages inspections of wastewater systems. Installs, modifies, operates and repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems. Constructs, alters, modifies or repairs a wide range of features in buildings, quarters and other facilities. Operates various carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical equipment and power tools.

Qualifications: All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/15/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Lead Or Supervise (SCREEN OUT) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Materials If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. Selective Placement Factors: By announcement close date, must possess and maintain the two following water licenses: (1) current West Virginia Dept. of Public Health Public Water System Operator 1D Operator License or equivalent certification from another state/jurisdiction, and (2) current West Virginia Dept. of Public Health Class S Wastewater Operator License or equivalent certification from another state/jurisdiction. You MUST include copies of both water licenses in your application packet. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. This is a supervisory position that may require completion of a supervisory probationary period.
