SHIPFITTER (FLANGE TURNER)

Summary

You will serve as a SHIPFITTER (FLANGE TURNER) in the Structural Shop in the Production Department Code 920 of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Duties

• You will work from blueprints, templates, mock-ups, or marked stock and determines machine, heating, and hand operations required based on size and thickness of stock.
• You will perform other shaping and bending operations with heavy hydraulic machinery.
• You will use molds, forms, templates or blueprints, and working with hot or cold stock, bends and shapes plates, bars, channels, and I-beams by bending material over forms using sledgehammers, shaping tools, and weights.
• You will lay out, fabricates, assemblies, and installs various metal structural assemblies, structures and pieces for ships and other vessels.
• You will apply methods and procedures used in the bending and shaping of ship structural plates and shapes.
• You will operate oxy/acetylene gas heating torches.
• You will read blueprints, Job Orders or JIC specifications, sketches, manuals, memos and other trade-related information.
• You will make shop calculations using ordinary arithmetic, geometry and other trade related mathematical methods.
