Duties
- Supervises and directs functions responsible for providing financial operations travel support to active duty military and civilian personnel, retiring active duty soldiers, and reserve military personnel.
- Establishes and implements controls to ensure that employees validate obligations of funds recorded in the accounting system prior to authorizing payment.
- Responds to customers and subordinates regarding travel claims, discrepancies, and procedures.
- Researches complex problems covering all aspects of processing or technical travel transactions.
- Trains and assists lower level accounting technicians with techniques to correct and process accounting inputs.
Qualifications
Human Resources will determine your qualifications for each entry grade level based on your interest and the additional following criteria. One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-07 for GS-08) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized Experience Is Defined As: Maintaining ledgers, reconciliation of subsidiary ledgers, and preparation of required reports and analysis of accounting information to ensure proper maintenance of ledgers and records, trial balances, reconciliations, adjustments, and corrective actions; working with a variety of accounting and financial automated systems; and providing professional advice, assistance, and information to customers and co-workers. You may qualify for consideration if meeting specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.
Education
GS-08 Substitution of Education for Experience: Eighteen months of graduate level education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required when it is directly related to the work of the position being filled. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements when the education is directly related to the position being filled.
