Supervisory Recreation Fee Technician

Summary

You will serve as a Supervisory Recreation Fee Technician with National Park Service at Kings Canyon National Park.

Duties

• Supervise a team of employees and volunteers tasked with performing Recreation Fee Program related duties including assigning work, preparing schedules, evaluating work performance, effect minor disciplinary measures, interview candidates for positions in the unit; recommend appointment, promotion, or reassignment to such positions. The incumbent performs assignments in accordance with all regulations governing the handling of government funds and separation of duties. Serve as a technical authority for the resolution of especially difficult or sensitive technical problems associated with the collection, deposit, tracking, and expenditure of fee revenue and donations. Test reservation system functionality in automated reservation systems such as Recreation.gov and report findings as appropriate. Prepare or update operating manuals and/or standard operating procedures for the implementation of fee related systems, processes, and procedures. Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks represent an extraordinary continuum of ecosystems (96% designated wilderness) arrayed along the greatest vertical relief (1,370 to 14,505 feet elevation) of any protected area in the lower 48 states. They are the highest, most rugged reaches of the Sierra Nevada Mountains (including Mount Whitney at 14,500 feet elevation) and feature the world's largest trees - Giant Sequoias. Sequoia National Park is the nation's second oldest national park (established September 25, 1890) and encompasses 404,863 acres. Kings Canyon was established on March 4, 1940 and encompasses 458,847 acres. Both parks provide a wealth of recreational opportunities via 835 miles of trails, wild and scenic rivers, alpine lakes, and caves, along with a full range of overnight lodging prospects to choose from that include 14 campgrounds. Requirements Continued: As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 1-year probationary period to evaluate your fitness and whether your continuation of employment advances the public interest. This is a supervisory position that may require completion of a supervisory probationary period. Qualifications: All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement - 09/14/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Competitive candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position at the GS-08 grade level, you must meet the following minimum qualifications: Specialized Experience: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Examples of specialized experience include: leading others in fee collection related duties as well as technical abilities; assisting with hiring, supervising, scheduling, and managing others involved in fee collection, money handling, and/or visitor orientation programs; providing technical or programmatic assistance on accounting, auditing, budget, and/or revenue collection; resolve fee program planning issues; assisting with identifying fee program/project needs; assisting with programmatic audits. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
