POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC

The primary purpose of this position is to operate, inspect, maintain, and repair electrical power production equipment and associated components, electrical distribution equipment, diesel, gasoline, and/or multi-fuel engines, and various other Aerospace Ground Equipment.

Duties

• -inspects, troubleshoots, performs modifications and repairs to powered and non-powered Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE). Inspects and checks equipment to determine operating deficiencies. -Performs preventive maintenance on powered and non-powered AGE in accordance with technical data. -Operates aircraft deicer trucks in accordance with established procedures to assist in the deicing of home station, transient and sometimes TDY aircraft. -Performs major repair, replacement, and overhaul of powered AGE components such as diesel, gasoline, or gas turbine engines, and mechanical and electrical accessories of engines. -Utilizes safety practices, procedures, follows established safety rules and regulations, and maintains safe and clean work environment. - Operates other vehicles and equipment such as AGE bobtails, flatbed trucks, shop tugs, plow vehicles, etc. to transport ground equipment (powered and non-powered) between flight line and maintenance facilities as well as snow removal duties.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability to perform the duties of a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1\. Knowledge of principles of electricity (AC/DC), solid-state circuitry, and safety rules andregulations pertaining toAGE powered support systems. 2\. Knowledge of the theory and operation of internal combustion diesel, gasoline and gas turbineengines associatedwith AGE equipment. 3\. Knowledge of technical practices associated with repair and maintenance of Aerospace GroundEquipment;hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, refrigeration, heating, liquid/gaseous oxygen and nitrogen andmechanical systems. 4\. Skill in reading, interpreting, and using wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, technical orders,technicalpublications, and similar guides associated with AGE equipment. 5\. Ability to use and maintain tools, measuring and test instruments, and related equipment neededto repair, maintain, andtroubleshoot Aerospace Ground Equipment. 6\. Ability to understand and apply shop procedures, policies, written and oral instructions, and directives sufficient to provide training to others. Ability to adhere to regulations, directives and polices governing the AirForce and Foreign Object Damage Program (FOD). Knowledge of Quality Assurance Program and flight line operations. Physical Effort Performs work that involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement. Sometimes must work in awkward positions or cramped areas. Must frequently lift and carry items weighing up to about 40 pounds and lift heavier items using jacks, hoists, or helpers. Working Conditions May work inside or outside. Inside work involves frequent exposure to drafts, changing temperature, and loud noise. Outside work may involve exposure to inclement weather, rain or snow, or wet or icy conditions. Both inside and outside, frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or surfaces. Vehicle operators work outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of traffic and weather on base, public roads and flight-line areas, in close proximity to aircraft and are subject to the dangers associated with flight-line operations. Operators are exposed to dirt, fumes, and loud noises. The work may involve extended periods or time in subzero temperature while functioning as an AGE dispatch driver supporting the flight-line operations. May work on parts and systems which are dirty and greasy, and which may be dangerous to operate or repair because of defects. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, strains, and electrical shock while repairing,positioning, adjusting, and moving equipment, and is exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants. To reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, theincumbent mustfollow numerous safety procedures and wear equipment such as protective eyeglasses, ear devices,hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, gloves, and clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable towear or use, and maybe worn or used for long periods. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
