Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range & Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as an Industrial Equipment Mechanic (WG-10) maintaining, repairing, and installing complex plant machinery, real property, and utility systems, while performing specialized part fabrication and rigging duties.

Duties

• Installs, overhauls, maintains, and adjusts the wide variety of machinery, equipment, and mechanical systems.
• Maintains existing equipment, modifies equipment as necessary, and installs new equipment.
• Installs and repairs foundations for machinery, using impact drills and building materials such as wood, cement, and steel.
• In installing new machines or equipment, works from blue prints or other floor plans and must locate new machinery by marking location on floor.
• May perform other incidental work operations such as checking and replacing electrical wiring and connections, and welding.
• Selects and installs weight handling gear such as cables, ropes, slings and chains used to lift, move and position a variety of large and heavy equipment and machinery.
• Must complete the required Asbestos Abatement Supervisor Licensure Certification within 6 months of being appointed into the position and attend annual refresher training.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Industrial Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. 1. Installing, maintaining, or repairing general industrial plant machinery, equipment, and structural foundations; 2. Interpreting basic specifications to assist in detecting malfunctions and making routine adjustments; 3. Operating ordinary hand, pneumatic, or electric tools (e.g., grinders, sanders) to complete assigned mechanical tasks. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Average weights handled are about 40 pounds. Hoists, dollies and cranes are available for use with heavy objects. Considerable standing, stooping, crawling, and working in strained or awkward positions is required. Incumbent must have good coordination and balance in working around machinery while in operations. Working Conditions: Most of the work is performed indoors. Uncomfortable conditions exist such as noise, dirt, grease, vibrations, poor illumination, poor ventilation, and unpleasant odors. Employee is subjected to hazards of moving machinery, and exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, burns, and scrapes.
