Duties
- Performs maintenance and repair tasks on a variety of mechanical equipment; assists in the repair of the mechanical/hydraulic portion of the overall storage modernization system.
- Diagnoses, disassembles, repairs, and reassembles mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and subsystems.
- Performs general and scheduled preventive maintenance of equipment, such as stock retrieval systems, overhead and conveyor systems, etc.
- Load tests and inspects lifting devices in accordance with regulations and manuals.
- Removes, capacity checks, charges, and fills and drains lead acid type batteries used in material handling equipment (MHE).
Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Effort: Works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Requires bending, stretching, stooping, crawling, knelling, etc. Lifts tools and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is primarily done indoors either in a shop or at the equipment installation site. Works outside when and where necessary. Is exposed to excessive noise, fumes, and the possibility of cuts, abrasions, electrical shocks, skin irritation and burns from battery solutions, and accidents while operating motor vehicles. Required to wear rubber gloves, aprons, face shield, and similar protective gear. TERM APPOINTMENT: This position is being filled as Term appointment not-to-exceed (NTE) 3 years. Current permanent DLA employees eligible as a Promotion, this position will be filled as a Temporary Promotion NTE 3 years and may be extended up to a total of five years or converted to a permanent promotion without further competition. Current permanent DLA employees eligible as a Reassignment/Change-to-Lower Grade, this position will be filled as a Reassignment/Change-to-Lower Grade with the intent to be limited to the time period specified in the announcement and may be reassigned at management's discretion or made permanent at any time. Upon termination/expiration of the temporary assignment, placement will be either to the gaining or previous organization in accordance with DLA policy (DLAI 1442.04) regarding placement rights after a time-limited assignment. For all others, if selected, this would be a Term/Time-Limited Appointment NTE 3 years, and not more than six years. The selected applicant will be required to sign a written agreement acknowledging the conditions of this temporary assignment/appointment and that they may be released from this position upon management discretion.
